We’re sure you’ve all seen it, the fail that is the new Leeds United badge. Within minutes thousands of people were signing petitions, MP’s were sending out formal letters to get it re-designed and not to mention all of the hate new Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear received.
You’re probably thinking, where did it all go wrong? How did the designer manage to create such a random badge that everyone hates? We have the answer. Client discovery. This is one of the most important steps you need to take before you start designing a new logo.
You need to speak with the client and in Leeds United case, speak to the fans. What does Leeds United mean to them? How can you convey the history and pride of Leeds United all in one image? Conversation is key.
This is a prime example of the importance of building a new brand/logo before you start the design process. Our designer, Elliot, took matters into his own hands and created a badge which not only speaks for Leeds United but their fans, capturing the heritage and tradition of the years they’ve spent MARCHING ON TOGETHER! .
